MAVERICK - 100% Merino Wool first layer

We call our 100% Merino Wool base layer line Maverick, named after the local Montana ski mountain the Duckworth brand was conceived by our founder, John Helle, a third generation rancher with a premium wool source and an appetite for the highest performing Merino Wool layers possible. This base layer material is absolutely synthetic free, boasting a natural stretch thanks to the unusual degree of “crimp” featured in our Merino Wool fleece.

No stink

"I live in Texas and cut grass for a living. I have been wearing this balaclava approximately 30 hours a week since March. We've had temps from upper 30's to 100 and at no point has it felt particularly uncomfortable. When hot it actually feels better than the cotton/poly product I used before. It keeps the dust out of my nose and mouth while being comfortable to wear. I have rinsed it twice, no actual wash with soap yet but it remains odor free. Will definitely purchase again."

Perfect for Bikepacking

"I just returned from a two week bike packing trip and this balaclava was the perfect head warming accessory. It fit under my helmet during chilly mornings and rainy days. It kept my head warm in my tent at night and didn't slip off in my sleep. It weighs next to nothing and packs down to a tiny size."

Linda G. (5/5)

"Warm, sit and perfect. Duckworth makes amazing products."

Impressive!

"I am very impressed with the Maverick Balaclava. Originally purchased as a gift, I think I may end up keeping it! It's extremely lightweight and warm. The weave is tight enough to keep the chill away yet allow for movement. It's suited for just about any chilly weather and fits great. A solid choice! In fact, it would be very handy to keep as part of the car's emergency clothing kit, too."

Merino balaclava

"Perfect for working outside, such as woodworking in a garage in winter, or under a raincoat in Oregon. Not too hot but plenty warm.It fits under a bike helmet without getting too bulky."

Christine L. (5/5)

Neck

"The only problem with this one is that the neck is a little short and air finds its way in."

I am very happy with

"I am very happy with it if it's good and I use it to go walking when it's cold outside"

Worth it

"Bought these for work (fuel hauler) and wore these out in -19 to drop fuel at 4AM. These are far superior to other base layers I’ve tried. They’re worth every penny so far. Hoping they last a long time."

I like that it’s all

"I like that it’s all wool but it’s way too big for my head."

Q&A

Is this odor resistant? I plan to use it for running in cold weather.
Yes it is! This would be a great cold weather running layer. It will certainly keep you warm and it is odor resistant as well.
What is the difference between this and the Comet balaclava? Is this one odor resistant (I’m looking for one I can wear while running)?
The Maverick is 100% wool, whereas the Comet is a biply material with a 100% wool outer layer and 100% polyester inner layer. We crafted the Comet fabric to wick sweat off your skin and pull it into the wool outer layer which heats up, keeping you dry and warm!
How is this different than the peak Balaclava and when will they be back in stock?
The Maverick is slightly thinner but still 100% wool. At this time, we do not have a scheduled restock date.
