If you're looking for a baselayer to stand up to the coldest winter days Mother Nature throws your way - and we've had customers wear Comet on expeditions in Antarctica and Alaska - then you've come to the right place. Duckworth's proprietary Comet fabric is natural-technical mash-up, combining a Montana-grown Merino Wool outer layer and a recycled polyester inner layer. Why the combo? Polyester is hydrophobic, meaning it will wick sweat and moisture right off your skin and into the hydrophilic wool layer; wool chemically becomes even warmer when introduced to water and water vapor, thus explaining why the slim-fitted Comet Leggings will have your legs feeling dry and toasty even in the nastiest conditions. Soft to the touch, durable, anti-odor, moisture-wicking, quick-drying, and versatile: your one-stop-shop baselayer legging.

Why Duckworth Comet Fabric?

Composition: 94% Montana Merino Wool and 6% nylon outer layer, 100% recycled polyester inner layer

Weight: 315 gsm

Favorite long johns

"Perfect base layer for snowboarding! I would say the thighs run smaller than the waist so I size up and they are perfect. I wear them under my snowboard pads."

Just right!

"Just the right weight of insulation, and feels good on my skin."

Kept me warm

"I wore my new Long Janes into the woods on a day with a very wet wintry mix. My waterproof clothing failed after a couple of hours, I literally was able to pour water out of my boots. My Long Janes were also soaked, but they still kept me warm and were also comfortable."

Jana C. (5/5)

Perfect base layer

"Nice base layer for skiing. Wicks away sweat and keeps you warm and dry."

Barbara M. (5/5)

Polyester insides, meh.

"I like the look of these, but I'm just not crazy about the polyester layer inside. Honestly, I don't buy wool leggings to have synthetic fabric next to my skin. And it makes them less stretchy than they should be, so the fit is not great. After I wear them a while, I get saggy britches."

2024 Long Janes are Much Improved

"I purchased Comet leggings for my wife last year (2023). She did not like the fit. Advised Duckworth and they told us that they were working on a new design. We just purchased a new pair (2024). She loves the fit. We live in northern PA. The snow is flying. Cold temperatures. These Long Janes really work."
