WoolCloud: No such thing as bad weather. Only bad gear.

A jacked filled with wool? You'll thank us later.

The name "WoolCloud," given to our proprietary, American made Merino Wool jackets and vests, is derived from what the name implies: A cloud of protective and warming wool, at one moment hinting at the lightness of a feather and the warmth of the densest Merino Wool fleece clip.

And the idea behind WoolCloud came from some simple questioning of the status quo, down (bird feather) fillers or the even lesser synthetic jacket fillers found everywhere on the market today. We thought to ourselves, “Why couldn’t we create an alternative using our premium Merino Wool and our high quality American made supply chain?”

Those fillers fall short, and here's why:

The job of insulation is to create loft.

Loft traps air, which traps body heat, therefore keeping you warm.

The question is not whether or not down or synthetic can accomplish this, but can they accomplish this when the weather turns real nasty and things get real

The moment your insulation loses its loft, it loses its ability to keep you warm.

When you're no longer warm, chances are you're no longer outside.

There are two common scenarios that cause insulation to lose its loft:

  1. It gets wet
  2. It gets compressed

When down gets wet, it clumps together and loses its loft.

When synthetics (made of plastic) ages or gets compressed repeatedly, it loses its loft.

We're going to repeat ourselves: When insulation loses its loft, it no longer keeps you warm.

Here's why wool is different:

When wool gets wet, water is absorbed into the fiber itself.

Due to the natural properties of wool, the hydrogen bonds in the water begin to break down. This chemical reaction causes heat.

Yeah, wool actually becomes warmer when wet (seriously, Google it if you must!).

In addition, wool's construction properties naturally resist compression. This means it will never lose it's loft.

What does this mean for you? It means a jacket filled with wool will keep you warm no matter what.

And if we recall, if it keeps you warm, it will keep you outside doing the things you love.

Did we mention the water-resistant ripstop nylon shell, elastic hood and wristcuffs, big 'ol pockets and Made in USA construction? Yeah. That too. What are you waiting for?

To summarize why this Merino Wool jacket is better than cotton, synthetics and down, a simple graph:
